Valley Players to Perform in St. Helena on April 14

As part of St. Helena’s Arts in the Streets event on April 14, Valley Players, picked by the Bohemian as Napa County’s best theater troupe for 2018, will be performing three short comedic plays in St. Helena’s Lyman Park.

NAPA, CA, MARCH 29, 2018 – These hilarious short comedies, The Lives of the Great Waitresses, Sure Thing, and Mere Mortals, are sure to be crowd pleasers.

In Lives, written by Nina Shengold, June Alane Reif, Debbie Baumann, Barbara Nemko and Amy Palagi play four waitresses, each with her own brand of zen, who share the secrets of being one of the greats.  In David Ives’ Sure Thing, would-be couple Bill, played by Gabriel Frey, and Betty, played by Megan Palagi, meet at a coffee shop and attempt to connect, continually stumbling or winding up in a dead-end; but every time they blunder, a merciful bell resets the conversation, resulting in a second, third, or even fourth chance to make a good impression. Mere Mortals, also by David Ives, eavesdrops on a lunch hour on a girder 50 stories over a New York City street, as three construction workers, played by Robert Silva, Rob Barlow and Daryl Roberts, share increasingly amazing secrets of their past.  Continue reading “Arts In April Press Release – March 29, 2018”

Valley Players bring Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike to Napa Valley

Valley Players and the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center at Lincoln Theater present the 2013 Tony Award winning Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike by Christopher Durang for three performances on February 1, 2 and 3 at 7pm at the Lincoln Theater in Yountville.

NAPA, CA, JANUARY 16, 2018 – The troupe then takes their show to the Mira Theatre in Vallejo for performances on February 9 and 10 at 7pm and February 11 at 2pm.

Chekhov is alive and well in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where adult siblings Vanya and Sonia reside in their old family home, mourning their lost dreams and missed opportunities. When their often-wrong but sometimes right, fortune-telling maid warns of impending dangers, and their movie-star sister, Masha, arrives unexpectedly with young, sexy, boy toy, Spike, the family is launched into a rollicking weekend of one-upmanship, exposed nerves, and a lot of broken mugs. With wit and absurdity, Christopher Durang’s Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike blends Chekhov’s famous ennui with the modern-day toils and troubles of celebrity, social networking, and age into a laugh-out-loud comedy that will tickle your funny bone and stimulate your mind. Valley Players returns to Vallejo with The Lover

The Napa Register called this production “bright, daring” and the performances “superbly ironic” and “elegantly smooth.”

VALLEJO, CA, August 2, 2017 – Valley Players reprises its production of The Lover by renowned playwright Harold Pinter at Bay Area Stage Theater, September 1-17.

Valley Players chose this small cast, one-act play with minimal set requirements for their very first production last January at the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center at Lincoln Theater in Yountville, where it ran for three performances. Later, director Debbie Baumann noted that a lot of work went in to that three-day run and it “left us wanting to perform it again! These actors are some of the best in the valley and deserve another chance to perform this intriguing show”

Valley Players Return to the stage with Anton in Show Business

Valley Players and the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center at Lincoln Theater present Anton In Show Business by Jane Martin for three performances only on May 9, 10 and 11 at 7pm at the Lincoln Theater in Yountville.

NAPA, CA, April 13, 2017 – Valley Players will then ‘take the show on the road’ to Bay Area Stage in Vallejo for performances on May 13 at 8pm and May 14th at 2pm.

Winner of the 2001 American Theatre Critics Steinberg New Play Award, this madcap comedy follows three actresses across the footlights, down the rabbit hole and into a strangely familiar Wonderland that looks a lot like American theatre! As these women pursue their dream of performing Chekhov in Texas, they’re whisked through a maelstrom of “good ideas” that offer unique solutions to The Three Sisters’ need to have life’s deeper purpose revealed. In the tradition of great backstage comedies, Anton in Show Business is a play within a play within a play that conveys the joys, pains and absurdities of “putting on a play” with biting wit, irony and humor.
