Our 2024 Season

Small Mouth Sounds by Bess Wohl

Bess Wohl’s 2016 Critics’ Pick (The New York Times, New York Magazine, Time Out New York) opens our 2024 season. Filled with awkward and insightful humor, SMALL MOUTH SOUNDS is a unique and compassionate play that asks how we address life’s biggest questions when words fail us. Six runaways from city life embark on a silent retreat in the overwhelming quiet of the woods. As these strangers confront internal demons both profound and absurd, their vows of silence collide with the achingly human need to connect.

The New York Times says, “It leaves you moved, refreshed and even enlightened.” The Huffington Post calls it “a play unlike any other.” And Variety calls it “flawless.”

Summer Staged Reading Series

Throughout the summer at Napa Valley Unitarian Universalists, we’ll be bringing you seven evenings of entertainment with readings of brand-new original works. The reading committee is diligently progressing through the extensive pool of over 200 submissions received last fall. After the initial round, a select group will review the finalists, ultimately choosing the top selections to showcase on May 31st, June 14th, June 28th, July 12th, July 26th, August 9th, and August 23rd.

Ripcord by David Lindsay-Abaire

Rounding out 2024 is David Lindsay-Abaire’s “…comic tale of adversaries…” When two older women battle over prime real estate in the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility, things quickly get out of hand. A seemingly harmless bet between the two quickly escalates into a dangerous game of one-upmanship that reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but also deeper truths that each would rather remain hidden.

Time Out New York claims, “David Lindsay-Abaire’s tastily sweet-and-sour RIPCORD is great fun!” The Hollywood Reporter says, “…there’s no shortage of funny lines and inspired moments of physical comedy…” And Deadline calls it “deeply satisfying and vastly entertaining”.
