Who is Daphne White?

Daphne White is a semi-finalist in the 2020 Julie Harris Playwright Award Competition, founded by Neil Simon. She is also a semi-finalist in the 2019 NuVoices New Plays festival of the Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte.

Her play Susan B. — about intersectional struggles within the early suffrage movement — launched the Bay Area Women’s Theatre Festival at Berkeley Rep’s Peet’s Theatre in 2020. Her play Shiva in the Garden of Edena dysfunctional family drama involving estranged siblings, a contested will and an angry ghost —  had a Zoom reading during Covid, sponsored by Society Cabaret of San Francisco. Two of her 10-minute plays had staged readings as part of Theater J’s 5×5 Festival in Washington, DC.

Daphne grew up in Israel and New York City and is a graduate of Brown University. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild, Theatre Resources Unlimited, NextStage, The TheaterMakers Studio, the Alliance for Jewish Theatre, the New Play Exchange, and Berkeley’s Play Cafe. She now lives in Berkeley with her husband and transgendered cat, Kitty.
