[NAPA, July 2023] – Valley Players continues its 2023 Summer Staged Reading Series with the final six original plays. This engaging series offers exciting comedies and dramas, dynamic characters, and powerful stories with topics ranging from drug-addicted family members to prehistoric board meetings. These staged readings take place at CrossWalk Community Church in Napa on August 4th and 5th.
The featured plays in the Summer Staged Reading Series on August 4th at 7pm:
Taken by Susan Jackson
Taken begins with a newspaper article of an evicted tenant who committed suicide while living in San Francisco. Is it Corrie’s brother Ben who was forced out of her family’s home because he was a drug addict? Against her husband’s wishes, Corrie travels to San Francisco to meet with the police and face the landlady who evicted her brother.
For the Love of a Good Man by JS Jacklin
Call it creeping tedium, or simply being stuck in the marital doldrums, For the Love of a Good Man seeks to find a remedy. Sixty-year-old Colleen, now retired, devises a scheme she believes will spark a new beginning for herself and her husband Richard. Her method, however, aided and abetted by her best friend Diane is a shade unconventional…
The featured plays in the Summer Staged Reading Series on August 5th at 2pm:
C is for Cupid by John Mabey
Courting still happens during the time of Covid, where love is just as beautifully complicated. This play is set during the global health crisis when there were more questions than answers. It captures one couple’s relationship which feels the same, exploring what happens as they try to navigate both.
Miss Peddy & Grace by William Ivor Fowkes
Caroline Peddy—an experienced and dedicated caretaker of elderly loved ones— is always available for hire. Can her newest charge cope with her insistent ways?
Discharge by Lisa Quoresimo
Brooke, a professor, and Jacob, one of her students, turn to each other in the wake of a tragedy.
Minutes of the Last Meeting at Chauvet Cave by Steven R. Boyett
Neanderthals hold a historic (well, prehistoric) meeting to debate whether this new “language” thing is bad for them.
