Natural Shocks by Lauren Gunderson

On April 22, Valley Players will proudly present a staged reading of Lauren Gunderson’s new play Natural Shocks. Coinciding with the weekend of the National School Walkout, this funny and devastating one-woman play is part of a nation-wide theatre activism campaign against gun violence. Nearly eighty theatres across the country will host readings, and donations for this electric performance by Valley Players’ own June Alane Reif will go to Moms Demand Action.

This never before seen work, is a 65-minute, one-woman tour-de-force play that bursts to life when we meet a woman waiting out an imminent tornado in her basement. She overflows with quirks, stories, and a final secret that puts the reality of guns in America in your very lap. The play is part confessional, part stand up, and part reckoning.

Lauren Gunderson is the most produced playwright in the United States for the past two years. In this never before seen work, a woman explores her past and present as she deals with an impending natural disaster. Natural Shocks is generously hosted by the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center and performed at the Lincoln Theatre in Yountville, at 4:00 on April 22. Suggested donation at the door is $20
