Valley Players Call for Submissions for Fall 2020

Valley Players is seeking short play submissions for “Ladies’ Briefs”—short plays by women, about women.

“Ladies’ Briefs” will be a two-week performance run of five to eight short plays to be produced in the fall of 2020. So, we want to see your briefs—bold and innovative plays written by women.

We are seeking unproduced, original work, written by women. Although we will consider all submissions, certain factors will improve your chances of being selected:

  • Strong roles for women over 40
  • Short running time of 15 minutes or less
  • Minimal production requirements
  • Smaller cast
  • Themes of importance to mature women
  • Northern California playwright

We are open to any genre, however we prefer no musicals at this time. Beyond that, if you can imagine it, then we will make it happen. We are, to be brief, looking for exciting plays that will move the audience of today and perhaps be a beacon to viewers in the future.

Valley Players’ mission is to empower women over 40 through the theater arts. Our home base is at the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center at Lincoln Theater in Napa, California. In 2018 Valley Players was voted Best Theater Troupe in Napa County by the readers and writers of the Bohemian newspaper.

Compensation

Proportional royalty for playwrights of chosen plays.

SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE  December 31,  2019

Guidelines

We are accepting plays, preferably 15 minutes or less (no musicals at this time). We intend to combine several short plays into a full evening’s entertainment for a run of six performances. While we are not restricting submissions, the following will improve your chances of play selection:

  • Strong roles for women over 40
  • Short running time of 15 minutes or less
  • Minimal production requirements
  • Smaller cast
  • Themes of importance to mature women
  • Northern California playwright

How to Submit

In an effort to be ecologically responsible, Valley Players accepts scripts in electronic format (PDF preferred). Please submit all materials and contact information (name, email, cell number) in one email to our Artistic Director, Debbie Baumann. All plays will then be resubmitted anonymously to the selection committee—scripts will be not be shared with anyone outside of said committee.

Other Proposals

In addition to the above, we will consider other options for a play or performance not covered here to be produced at a different time. Please contact us with your proposals.

As with all of the plays that we produce, we are looking to nurture and develop Bay Area artists. We are also open to giving voice to other artists, both national and international.

Again, if you can imagine it, then we will consider it.
